Blogroll Update!

A couple times a year I like to go through my Blogroll, boot out the friends that stopped blogging and add the new ones who are. I've got some exciting new ones this time. Let me introduce you and hopefully you can all be friends!

Stovetop is UW Cycling's newest Men's A racer. We've been on Spring Break together the last two years. Check his blog out for glimpse inside life in the A peloton as he tries to qualify for nationals this year.

D - Train Strikes Again! : http://thedurst.wordpress.com/

D - Train is a pretty damn fast A rider on the women's side of UW Cycling who I've also gotten to know over SB the last two years. Check her blog for a glimpse into the women's peloton as well as more than you probably want to know about her GI issues.

Running Blonde: http://runningblonde.com/

Princess over at Running Blonde has a little bit of everything going on: runner, cyclists, triathlete, med students, photographer. Nice site design and lots of photos make this site a fun read.

I've been promising to add Mel's website for way too long. Mel is an elite runner well on her way to making a comeback after a few years of injury. She's also a nutritionist, dietician, all-around foodie, and personal trainer. Check out her blog for recipes, nutrition tips and insights into how your body uses food to fuel athletic performance and recovery.

Follow them, add them, subscribe to them, read them and comment on them - these are blogs to watch in the next few months. Hope you enjoy!

Peace,

Blogroll Update: Velocorapture (Claire)

Oh the lovely Claire. First of all how sweet is her blog name; Velocorapture. velocity + velocipede + velociraptor + fuck yeah + rap + hip hop + rapture = velocorapture. Fucking brilliant!

Claire races MTB at the Formula - un level. Her description of her beginning in cycling is eye-popping:
I bought my first mountain bike, a Gary Fisher Big Sur, in April 2007. I taught myself to ride on Milwaukee’s River Trail, and began racing [Wisconsin Offroad Racing Series] in May, 2007. I rode in tennis shoes on platform pedals for my first race. My Sidi shoes arrived the day before my next race; I rode clipped in for the first time and took second. The first time I won a WORS race was at Crystal Ridge, in the mud. By the end of the 2007 season, I’d won a couple more times, and finished first woman overall in the Sport series. I upgraded to Expert for my last race of that season.

In case you missed that, time between buying a mountain bike to racing in the highest MTB catagory; about 6 months, with a handful of race wins along the way.

In case you don't feel a bad enough about yourself after reading that, Claire also has a Ph.D. in neurobiology (which took me three tries to spell). She also accidentally became a writer for Velonews (full story on her blog). If that wasn't enough she is also a pretty sweet photographer:

I mean she's got nothing on Gehling's Microsoft Paint skills but she's doing alright for herself.

Claire is in Baltimore every now and again for work so hopefully someday we can get her to come out for a beer with TWSS. Tank and I are looking forward to hangin' with her on spring break this year. I'm going to try and cram my 29er in tank's toaster so hopefully she can show me how to hold it down like a bauws on the trails.

So go read her blog.

Bitches, Brennan and Mel -- get to postin', your blogs are getting shouted out soon!

Blogroll Update: I Like Bikes

Here is the next installment in my series of new blogs you should be reading in 2010.

I Like Bikes - Gelhing is Geo's old roommate and another former UW teammate of mine. He recently upgraded to whatever the highest category of MTB racing is -- F1 or super-grande mochaccino or something like that. He works for THE GREAT TREK BICYCLE MAKING CORPORATION and is dating the lovely Claire (see next week).

He's also a digital artist and makes most-modern pieces such as this one:

Even though he's the same age as me Gehling disproportionately contributes to the level of old-man grumpiness among the Wisco alumni. This is probably because he has to put up with the rest of us spending our "recovery time" on spring break drinking, streaking, fighting and causing a ruckus as well as the general aggravation of watching us scheme up, execute and then recover from a seemingly endless stream of alcohol and adrenaline fueled shit-show ideas. But once a year we throw him in the Thunderdome with Geo and that seems to let out most of his aggression:

But he's good on the bike too and we had a great time riding up and down the mountains of North Carolina on spring break. But Gehling, don't think you'll be able to pull the same sneak attack sprint on me this year at the top of Chirahalla Skyway!

(yeah I'm flipping you off son)

Blog Roll Update: Fozzy Bear

So as I mentioned in last night's post I've gotten a little behind in the upkeep of my blog. As part of an effort to clean things up a little bit I'm making some long overdue additions to my blogroll. These are all very cool bloggers (and people) and I hope you enjoy the additional content.

B Fosler - Brian Fosler (aka B Foz or Fozzy Bear) was a resident on the floor below me when I was an RA in college. Some of my Baltimore friends might know his RA -- my friend Scott from DC. Brook's ex who came to Festivus in a onesie and to a toga party in what I think was a shower curtain. Fozzy has been racing bikes since he was a junior. He raced with me at Wisco just capped off 2009 CX season by winning the Wisconsins Men's Cat3 Championships. Most importantly Fozzy is always down for joining me in some shenanigans, drinking, streaking, a facial hair contest or judging the shit out of people.

Shout me out if you know someone else's blog I should add. In the weeks to come I'll shout out Bitches, Gelhing, Wisco Claire, and Mel's food blog.
